Everyone
remembers task and general lighting in their rooms… After all, it
becomes apparent pretty quickly that you don’t have enough lighting the
first time you sit down to read a book or help someone with their
Algebra. However, one of the secrets of interior designers is that
lighting is<i><b> key</b></i>. That means you can’t neglect
those dark walls and corners. Ambient lighting can make a room,
especially in the evening. So, we turn to sconce lights. Sconce lights
attach to the wall, and add a soft glow. They do provide some gentle
general lighting as well for pass through areas. But chances are, if
you’re reading this post, you aren’t looking for some run of the mill
sconce you can pick up at the box stores! These DIY sconce lights are
original, or used in an original way. They add a touch of character
without becoming a focal point. Love!<br />
<br />
Our feature project above, is a tutorial for these <a href="http://www.ohohblog.com/2014/07/diy-paper-wall-lamp.html" target="_blank">DIY paper wall lamps</a>
from Ama at the ‘Oh Oh Blog’. Can I just say, oh, oh!!! You have to
click through and see the photo of these in her stairwell. Fun fact? Her
blog translates every paragraph into Spanish and French as well as
English!<br />
From Claire at ‘Camille Styles’, this <a href="http://camillestyles.com/living/transformed-copper-pipe-wall-sconce/" target="_blank">DIY copper pipe wall sconce</a>
is a great project for those who like a bit of fresh industrial flavor
in their rooms. (My hand is up!) She has a really complete step by step
tutorial. Note : You do not need to weld, nor need a pipe cutter for
this project.<br />

‘BHG’ has another version of a <a href="http://www.bhg.com/decorating/do-it-yourself/accents/diy-accessories/#page=10" target="_blank">DIY pipe sconce</a> that is hard wired into the wall. As they suggest, always consult an electrician for hard wiring…<br />

Have you seen these cool metal fruit bowls at Ikea? I happen to own one… ‘IkeaHackers’ made an <a href="http://www.ikeahackers.net/2011/03/ikea-fruitbowl-lamp.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+Ikeahacker+%28ikeahacker%29&utm_content=Google+Reader" target="_blank">Ikea bowl lamp</a>! Ingenious!<br />

From ‘Engineer Your Space’ on ‘Instructables’, this <a href="http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-wall-lamp-sconce/?ALLSTEPS" target="_blank">DIY wood and metal wall sconce</a> looks like something you would buy at an upscale store… I like how delicate the wood strips make it appear.<br />

This <a href="http://theprojectaddict.com/shades/" target="_blank">Shades of Light knock off sconce</a>
by ‘The Project Addict’ is a simple idea using decorative metal sheets
to cast cool shadows. You can get this type of metal at most hobby or
home improvement stores.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.decoratingyoursmallspace.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/shades-light-knockoff-sconce1-586x1024.jpg"><img alt="shades-light-knockoff-sconce1-586x1024" class=" size-full wp-image-3364 aligncenter" src="http://www.decoratingyoursmallspace.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/shades-light-knockoff-sconce1-586x1024.jpg" height="1024" width="586" /></a><br />
<br />
‘<a href="http://www.bhg.com/decorating/do-it-yourself/accents/ideas-for-light-fixtures/#page=4" target="_blank">BHG</a>‘
has a similar project, but suggests using art paper inside the lamp to
diffuse the light. They also caution if you go that route, to use a low
wattage LED bulb to prevent fire hazards.<br />
<br />

From Kristine at ‘The Painted Hive’, this <a href="http://thepaintedhive.net/2012/03/industrial-sconce-light-makeover/" target="_blank">DIY industrial sconce light makeover</a> is a crazy cool before and after! This is done with a material you will <b><i>never</i></b> guess!<br />

<br />
This last one is from ‘<a href="http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/taylor-alanas-carefully-crafted-hoboken-apartment-house-tour-214878#gallery/48929/24" target="_blank">Apartment Therapy</a>‘… this light isn’t the DIY… I know, because I have the exact same one hanging in my living room next to my <a href="http://www.thebudgetdecorator.com/easy-diy-faux-fireplace/" target="_blank">faux fireplace</a>.
(Target, before you ask!) But what is cool is the Ikea shelf bracket
they used to hang it with. If you notice, they drilled a hole into the
bracket to allow the cord to run all the way back to the wall. Great
idea when you don’t want to hang from the ceiling!<br />
<br />
